Bored with Beirut?  Quitting Quarters?  Ready to forget flip cup?  Sounds like you’re ready to take your drinking games up a notch.  How about a summer sloshball tournament?

Sloshball is basically kickball with beer.  Every player must have a beer in his or her hands at all times.  Runners must drink an entire beer before proceeding beyond second base (so put a keg there), but force-out rules at first and third bases are dropped so that several people can be on second base at once.  Any disagreements between teams are settled by a chug-off.   Otherwise, kickball rules are observed.

Some people add other rules or regulations to make it more fun and/or fair.   Here are some you might want to enforce if you hold a tourney:

  1. Men and women must alternate kicking
  2. Each team nominates a designated pitcher to pitch to his/her own team
  3. Any time a player kicks a home run, his/her team meets at second base for a “team social” where everyone drinks.
  4. A “boat race” is held every 3 innings, and the winning team earns a run.  For a boat race, both teams line up facing each other.  The people at one end furiously chug their beers, and once it’s done they put their empty cup on their head (upside down).  That’s the cue for the person next to them to start drinking.  It goes down the line until everyone on the team has finished.

So next time you have a free weekend, gather some friends and head to a field, park, or beach for some sloshball.  Just make sure you bring cheap beer, because you will be spilling a ton of it!
