Spring is here, the birds are chirping, the bees are buzzing and women are beginning to shed their winter coats and slowly immerge from migration, where they spent several long, cold months watching sappy romance movies in their Snuggies while munching on exotic cheeses and drinking red wine. Now they're on the prowl, showing the goods and hanging around the local man markets to check out this year's top picks. The question is, are you good for the picking?

What are the ladies going to see you doing out and about this spring and summer? Hobbies are sexy, especially manly man hobbies. Whether you're carving a canoe from the remnants of a dead tree and naming it after your childhood dog or oh so delicately trimming a bonsai tree with the care, precision and intensity a woman would want in bed, having a hobby makes you interesting, attractive and dynamic.

1) Learn an Instrument

Chick magnetism 101 fellas, women totally dig a dude that plays an instrument or who can rock the mic. So pick up a guitar, hop on a drum set, get some bongos or a harmonica or a saxophone and take lessons. At the risk of coming across as a douchebag you should display your manly instrumental skills in public. Go to a park and strum your guitar so sweetly that birds nest on your shoulders you glorious hunk of man, you. It won't be long until women are so intrigued that they approach you after being drawn in by your passionate pastime.

2) Learn a Martial Art

Women love to know that a man can protect her, what better way to solidify this fact than to let her know you're a kung fu master? There are many martial arts out there (check out The Most Badass Martial Art blog for a run down) and they're all pretty much OK. As long as you say you're taking some kind of martial art then you're in. Not only will she know you can face punch any bad guys, she also knows you have dedication and are physical.

3) Volunteer

Volunteer somewhere, anywhere. Help out at Habitat for Humanity, walk dogs at your local shelter or rescue, enter into a big brother program, help out at your local YMCA. Anything that you can do that you don't have to do, but that you want to do is attractive. This demonstrates to women that you're caring and determined. The fact that you would lend your time to volunteering for no pay, but out of the goodness of your heart, instead of spending your Saturdays chillin' with your homies and playing XBox, demonstrates that you would spend your time with her.

4) Dance Lessons

It's totally manly to dance well. There is nothing more sultry and suave than a man who can gracefully wisp a girl away on the dance floor making her feel like she's on the TCM channel and trust me, you'll be the envy of all the guys as well. Make sure to take dance lessons that are a little bit more varied such as ballroom dancing, swing dancing or even hip hop. When you know you can dance well, then you have no qualms about going out at night a lone and showing off your skills. Trust me, you won't be a lone by the time the night's over.

 

5) Wilderness Survival Classes

Nothing is sexier than a Burt Reynolds-esque man that will know how to survive when the system fails, fight off impending bear attacks, create fire, fashion spears out of bamboo and live off the land. Not only does this particular hobby make you incredibly interesting, it also makes you valuable -- a true renaissance man. If you can balance the everyday social media overload with a healthy knowledge of the outdoors then you're a prime catch my good sir.

6) Building Stuff

How manly is it to build stuff. What kind of stuff? I don't know -- cool stuff. Manly stuff. Learn how to build a magnificent vase out of clay, learn how to weld a statue, learn how to carve and work with wood. All of these things require patience and imagination combined with the element altering strength that only an abundance of testosterone can deliver.

7) Art

Whether it's writing poetry or painting pictures, chicks dig the sensitive artist type. The tiny, minute details that you pay attention to when honing your craft make women melt. The best thing is, women love being objects of art. You'll be surprised how she'll throw herself at you wanting to pose for you or be told that one of your poems is about her.

8) Learn How to Cook

A real man knows how to cook. There is nothing sexier to a woman than a man that knows his way around the kitchen and that has a fair knowledge of different cultural dishes. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach so if that's true the way to a woman's heart is through wearing an apron and sharpening ginsu knives over a searing hot stove where you slowly cook your rack of lamb to perfection. OK, that was a very long saying, but it's true. Go out there and get yourself an apron.

9) Travel

Traveling leisurely and often is very appealing to women. Not only does it allow you to build up an impressive reservoir of on-hand stories that make you interesting and sexy, it also makes you adventurous, spontaneous and even a little dangerous. Oh the places you'll go.

10) Gardening

Ah, yes! The act of reforming and reshaping the earth itself, conquering and honing the very land beneath our feet to bear us sustenance and stability! What could possibly be manlier than that? Just wait until those women see you out there in the hot sun, sweating, dirty, tilling the ground and shaping the elements in your favor. Imagine their utter intrigue when you step outside to pull a ripe, red tomato off the vine for an afternoon sandwich... I do declare, I'm a bit hot under the collar.

Hobbies should always convey your worth. Of course, we could view collecting comic books as a hobby or brushing up on our knowledge of Lost or Star Wars as a hobby, I even have a friend that collects Star Wars toys for as a hobby, but it's important to balance those things out with some good manly undertakings. Women want a man to possess value. They associate everything you do with your free time to how you're going to treat them. So get out there this spring and start learning some new skills sets. The best thing about having a solid skill set and a list of intriguing hobbies is that, no matter what you look like, you will instantly be more attractive when you engage in something and love something that you do. That's what women really look for.
